Mini-DVD
A BLACK and WHITE
1948 public relations film produced by The Association of American Railroads,
showcasing both
steam and diesel passenger trains. Narrated by Ed Herlihy of newsreel fame,
it also has a
musical score. The train shots are rather quick, but there are some very
interesting locomotives:
Alco PAs from the Pennsylvania Railroad and Southern Pacific;
EMD E7s of New
York Central, PRR, Seaboard Airline, Atlantic Coast Line, Southern,
Baltimore and
Ohio, Rock Island and the Lackawanna; FM Erie-Builts and
Baldwin sharks
of the PRR; Norfolk and Western Js and Ks; NYC Hudsons and others.
There are interior
shots of large old stations, as well as the trains themselves.
It's a corny old script but a fascinating piece of American Railroadiana.
